Kaliningrad Airport (Khrabrovo) Acquires Certification on Accessible Infrastructure

In late 2020, in order to increase access to peoples with disabilities as part of the government's Accessible Environment program, Kaliningrad International Airport (Khrabrovo) conducted an assessment to check compliance with accessibility requirements to facilities and services. A working group carried out the examination at the airport terminal and station square.

Based on the survey results, Kaliningrad Airport (Khrabrovo) was awarded a certification confirming infrastructural accessibility to persons of all disability categories and other persons with reduced mobility. The accessibility certification was approved by the CEO of Khrabrovo Airport JSC and the Kaliningrad nonprofit Kovcheg organization for peoples with disabilities.

Kaliningrad Airport (Khrabrovo) serves between 5 and 20 passengers with disabilities each day. On peak days (public holidays, the New Year, and during summer), the number of departing and arriving passengers with reduced mobility reaches 50–70 people per day.

To ensure passenger convenience, the airport provides full access to all infrastructure facilities: the station square contains spaces equipped for wheelchairs, dedicated markings, tactile pavings, emergency buttons, disabled elevators and stairlifts, accessible toilets, and ambulift to assist with flight boardings. Airport staff is trained to provide professional assistance to passengers with disabilities when completing required procedures during departure and upon arrival.

This service is provided for free. According to Russian law, the list of free services includes accompanying and assisting disabled passengers when moving around the airport; offering assistance during pre-flight and post-flight procedures; providing special vehicles (including wheelchairs) and availability of assistive auditory and visual information; as well as offering assistance during boarding and disembarkation.
