Kaliningrad international airport (Khrabrovo) receives ICAO Category II

Kaliningrad international airport (Khrabrovo) named after Empress Elizabeth of Russia is certified ICAO Category II. On February 12, 2020, Kaliningrad airdrome received a conformity certificate issued by the Airport Administration of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) valid for three years. According to the certificate, Kaliningrad airdrome (Khrabrovo) has class B and the size of its runway is 3350х45m.

The runway provides two final approach courses. Course 240˚ is certified for precision approach according to category II; course 060˚– for precision approach according to category I.

Category II allows aircraft to perform precision approaches and instrument landing with a decision height of less than 60m but not less than 30m and runway visual range of at least 350m.

Category I allows aircraft to perform precision approaches and instrument landing with a decision height of at least 60m and runway visual range of at least 550m. In order to prepare Kaliningrad airdrome (Khrabrovo) to receive category II, it was equipped with additional radio navigation aids. A system of multi-sensor surveillance (MLAT ‘Almanac’) was installed at the airport. Work was carried out by order of Federal State Unitary Enterprise State ATM Corporation.

Obtaining Category II will allow the Kaliningrad airport to significantly reduce the number of delays and cancellations due to bad weather condition.
